Upper Elementary

(Grades 4 - 6)

In the Upper Elementary program, students continue to build on the foundational skills developed in Lower Elementary while becoming more independent, self-directed learners. At this stage, children between the ages of 9–12 are naturally curious, socially aware, and eager to explore the world around them in more depth.

The curriculum is integrated and interdisciplinary, encouraging students to make meaningful connections across subjects like math, language, science, history, and geography. Project-based learning and research are emphasized, allowing students to pursue topics of interest and develop critical thinking, collaboration, and presentation skills.

Montessori materials continue to support hands-on learning, but students also begin to use more abstract tools and strategies. Teachers act as guides and mentors, helping students set goals, manage time, and reflect on their learning.

Upper Elementary students also take on greater responsibility within the school community, participating in leadership roles, community outreach, and activities that foster social-emotional development. This stage lays the groundwork for adolescence by nurturing confidence, empathy, and a lifelong love of learning.
