Our School

At Muskoka Montessori, we nurture curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning in a warm, child-centered environment. As a Montessori Canada -accredited private school, we provide an authentic Montessori education where students grow academically, socially, and emotionally into confident and capable individuals.

For more than 25 years, nestled in the heart of nature in Huntsville, Ontario, we have been guiding children from age 3 through Grade 8. Our classrooms are communities of respect, where children are seen as capable and curious learners. With the support of dedicated Montessori educators, students develop independence, creativity, and a true passion for discovery.

We invite you to explore our programs, meet our staff, and experience what makes Montessori education and our community so special.

Montessori Philosophy

What is Montessori?

Montessori is both a philosophy and a method of education developed more than 80 years ago by Dr. Maria Montessori. It is based on the belief that every child has great potential, and that learning is most effective when it is guided by curiosity and a natural desire to explore.

In a Montessori classroom, specially designed materials awaken this curiosity and channel it into meaningful learning experiences. Children progress at their own pace, so fast learners are not held back, and those who need more time are supported without frustration.

The Montessori environment provides a balance of structure and freedom. From their earliest years, children are introduced to the idea that freedom comes with responsibility, a principle that nurtures self-discipline and independence over time.

Children are free to choose from a wide variety of purposeful activities, gaining the skills and tools needed to accomplish their goals while learning the social values that guide them in making thoughtful choices. The role of the Montessori teacher is to prepare the environment, guide the child’s work, and serve as a role model—supporting each student in developing both academic skills and personal growth.
