CASA (Ages 3–6) In the CASA environment, culinary experiences are introduced through simple food preparation activities. Children learn foundational skills such as:Baking basicsSafe knife handling with child-friendly toolsPouring, cutting, mixing, and measuringThese activities are designed to promote coordination, independence, and respect for process and cleanliness.
Elementary (Grades 1–6)Culinary learning expands in the Elementary program as children grow more capable and curious. Many students crack their first egg, use a real knife, and begin to work more independently in the kitchen. Skills introduced include:Reading and following a recipeMeasuring accuratelyCooking on a stovetop and using an ovenPracticing safe food handlingCleaning and organizing a kitchen workspaceCulinary tasks are often integrated with cultural, science, or practical life lessons, making the work meaningful and connected to broader learning themes.
Erdkinder (Grades 7–8)By the time students reach the Erdkinder level, culinary work becomes part of a student-run economy and an opportunity for entrepreneurship and service. Students work in teams to:Plan, shop for, and bake goods sold weekly at the school caféPrepare and serve a weekly soup lunch to fellow students and staffTake responsibility for budgeting, marketing, and cleanliness.
These real-world culinary experiences help students build a strong sense of responsibility, collaboration, and service—while also deepening their understanding of nutrition, economics, and food systems.
